CHILDFREE AT WORK

We are Childfree is campaigning to improve working conditions for childfree people, who feel unseen, unheard and undervalued by their employers. If we are to tackle this hidden diversity issue and create truly inclusive workspaces, we need to have open, honest conversations about the challenges non-parents face at work. And that starts with your story.

“As a nanny, I’m not believed when I say I don't want children.”

Veatriki, 38, UK

“I love my kids, and I also love the fact that they go back to their own parents at pickup time.”

Aparna, 32, India

“’It takes a village’ isn't only about supporting children, it’s about all of us.”

Amy, 47, Norway

“I have never been treated differently at work for not having children.”

Irina, 45, Portugal

“I have never really stayed at a job longer than 2 years due to discrimination.”

“Because I am childfree, my personal time isn’t valued.”

Denise, 30, USA

“It has made me feel like I am a second-class citizen and employee simply for being childfree.”

Anonymous

“I’ve faced a lot of unfair treatment as a result of being an openly childfree woman.”

“While there is talk of ‘valuing diversity’ it is challenging feeling like only one kind of choice is valued.”

“What added insult to injury was when the hiring manager felt the need to explain that ‘if you get pregnant, it will affect you working here’.”
