WE ARE CHILDFREE

“I’m autistic and there’s a good chance my child would be too. I didn’t want to have to deal with that.”

Asten, 29, UK

When I was younger I always just assumed I’d have children because it was the “normal” thing to do. Then in my 20s I found some childfree groups on Facebook and realised that I had a choice. I never really liked the idea of giving birth and I don’t think I could handle the responsibility either. I’m autistic and there’s a good chance my child would be too. I didn’t want to have to deal with that. I live my best childfree life by writing (I have several self-published books on amazon), and going to concerts and shows (when I’m able to). My boyfriend is also childfree so it works out really well. I’m looking forward to the future being childfree and living my best life!
