“My life is all open horizons and that’s all I want!”

Antonia, 44, Greece

I remember being handed a baby doll as a child. ‘This is boring, what am I supposed to do with it?’ I preferred climbing trees, going to the playground or dressing up my very adult Barbie.

In my 20s, I could not be further from marriage and kids. I was exploring university, love and life – marriage was so far away and felt like a prison. Plus, I didn’t like children.

Later in life, a steady partnership was still not my thing and certainly not children. After many personal problems and therapy I met my husband at 40.

We have been together for 4 years and happily married for 2. He is my partner in life, ‘in crime’, in everything. He never wanted children either.

Now at 44, I have never felt more free or inspired. We are planning our business, planning to travel, to break free from our 9-5 jobs and “normal life”.

We live spontaneously, have lazy afternoons in our quiet living room, having long philosophical conversations about life. We watch our friends and family with children… perpetually tired, stressed, with no money.

I could never have the means to live a full life if I had children. It would be a prison for me. I value personal time and freedom of expression above all things. And options, having lots of options.

My life is all open horizons and that’s all I want!
