“Getting my tubes tied sealed the deal. I feel free, at peace.”

Marie, 36, France

I am childfree by choice. My 30th birthday present to myself was getting my tubes tied.

I think I never wanted kids, but only around 28, 29, did I start to really think about it and realise, “I do not want to be a mother, and it would be a real struggle if I did.” That’s mostly due to getting to that age where a decision has to be made, and the social pressure intensified. Partners who wanted kids, plans to be made around things other than schools and stable careers.

Then I started searching for stories of women who didn’t have kids, just to see if some did live a happy life, or if everyone ended up regretting it, as everyone told me.

That’s how I discovered the childfree “movement”. And it brought me such a feeling of serenity.

Getting my tubes tied sealed the deal. I feel free, at peace. Now people’s judgement doesn’t matter, and partners/friends/family can’t feel like maybe they have a window to change my mind. My choice will always be respected. Shutting off all debate and discussion.

I can quit my job tomorrow and move to Peru. Or just do nothing at all. FREE.

Thanks for setting up this community. It helped me so much to hear stories of childfree women when I wasn’t even aware it was an option…
