“As a nanny, I’m not believed when I say I don’t want children.”

Veatriki, 38, UK

It’s funny with my job as a nanny… even if I have a degree in childcare, have attended numerous of seminars, courses and conferences, have loads of experience the last 19 years with all ages from newborn to preteen, I will always be the one who doesn’t have children so she doesn’t know as much as a mum of a 3 year old.

Recently, I noticed that they will not believe me when I say I don’t want children or they will think I am not serious enough or not a role model for their child.

It didn’t cross my mind that people could think these things, when I interviewed with families over the last year and proudly I was telling them I am childfree – until I read those hideous comments about Taylor Swift and then it clicked: some parents think less of us.
