“I feel like my preferences have some weight in the world - like the way I want to live my life isn’t weird or alternative.”
After five years of trying to find a doctor willing to perform the procedure, I finally got my tubes tied today.
I’m nearly 29 years old and I’ve known that I’m childfree my whole life. I remember first having the realization that I would never be a mother in first grade. Everyone in my immediate family accepted my childfree decision quickly, because it was always a part of my personality.
But extended family, friends, prospective romantic partners, and even medical professionals were much harder to convince.
Today’s surgery felt like a massive societal weight was lifted from my shoulders. I feel heard and validated. I feel like my preferences have some weight in the world – like the way I want to live my life isn’t weird or alternative.
