“I kept making choices that de-centered the ‘traditional’ life path.”
Throughout my twenties, I kept making choices that de-centered the “traditional” life path. I was never pressured to begin that journey of marriage and kids by my parents, and felt freer to continue to make my own choices as I got older.
While I want a life that has love and time together with the people I care about, and occasionally I’ll think about what it would be like to have children, that picture has always prioritized other things, like travel and a comfortable lifestyle and supporting animal causes.
I have a lot of individual reasons to be childfree by choice like the planet is overpopulated, we’re running out of resources, it’s financially soul-sucking to have kids, the physical changes my body would go through, it’s still dangerous to have a child, etc etc etc, it fundamentally comes down to I don’t want kids “enough” and I fully believe kids should be wanted in this world.
