WE ARE CHILDFREE

“I never had ‘baby fever’.”

Anonymous

Last year I decided to go back to school to become a film director. I’m in my mid-thirties and I’m sure that if I had children that wouldn’t be possible since going to film school is a lot of work and money which I’m paying out of my own pocket.

I enjoy the freedom to study and to travel without having the responsibility of looking after a child. I’m an aunt and I love it, but I can’t ever imagine being a mother.

I realized I didn’t want to have children when I was in my mid-20s. I never had the “biological clock” go off and I never had “baby fever”. Also, the state of the world doesn’t seem appealing to bring a child into. I’m honestly surprised parents think otherwise.

Furthermore, I enjoy travelling (including spontaneous trips), meeting with friends, dancing, learning new languages etc. All of this requires time and energy I would just not have if I had children.

I need my energy to focus on myself and my needs and goals, on my mental and physical health. That’s what’s really important to me.
