WE ARE CHILDFREE

β€œIt is hard when everyone around you is trying to tell you what to do.”

I am currently a Master’s student studying Public Policy. I am learning more about the childfree movement.

I got to this choice when I was 17. A student’s mom convinced me that kids are a lot of work and she was on her third child. Then I see my mom and she sacrificed a lot to take care of my sister and I. My mom holds two degrees and I felt that she could do a lot more with her life.

This was a realization that is slowly taking its course. I am a person who changes her mind all the time and it is hard when people always say β€˜you will change your mind’ and I don’t want to change my mind.

I feel really happy when I don’t have to take care of someone. It is hard when everyone around you is trying to tell you what to do, but I am trying my best not to take those perspectives into my choices.

When it comes to relationships, every guy wants kids in the near future which became my red flag.

I wish people could understand and respect the choice of being childfree. I want to be childfree and I will always want to be.
