WE ARE CHILDFREE

“Two years ago, I quit my job and travelled to seven African countries solo. I loved it!”

Lindi, 36, South Africa

I am from a small, loving family. I enjoy travel and spending time by myself. Two years ago, I quit my job and travelled to seven African countries solo. I loved it!

I knew in my late teens that I didn’t want children. I told my mom at 19, but I don’t think she believed me. But she never questioned me. No one in my family has ever asked when or if I will have children. I think they accept me as the unconventional member of the family.

Anyway, fast-forward to 2023. I decided to change careers. I’m a Sagittarius so I’m always up for adventure! I’ve just signed a job contract and I’ll be relocating to the other side of the world next year.

I’m now a grown woman and I haven’t changed my mind about children. I don’t think I’d have been able to make these life-changing decisions if I had children.

The only thing is that dating can be tricky as I’m at an age where people date with the intention to marry. Also as a woman when you say you don’t want to be a mother, people assume you hate children. This is not true. I just don’t want the responsibility. I enjoy spending time with my nieces but I wouldn’t want that to be full-time.
